This policy explains what personal data we collect when you visit sermentcouture.com, why we collect it, who we share it with and what rights you have over it.

1. Who is responsible for your data

The data controller is:

For any question about your data, or to exercise any of the rights in section 7, write to us at that email address. We answer within 30 days, and usually within 24 hours.

2. What we collect

• Identity and contact details — first and last name, email address, postal and billing address, telephone number.
• Order data — items ordered, sizes and measurements you send us, amounts, dates, delivery and tracking details, returns and refunds.
• Payment data — the last four digits of your card, the card brand and the transaction reference. We never see or store your full card number: it is collected directly by our payment provider on a secure page.
• Account data — if you create an account: login details, preferences, order history, wishlist.
• Correspondence — the content of your emails and chat conversations with us.
• Technical and usage data — IP address, browser and device type, operating system, pages viewed, items added to the cart, referring site, and identifiers stored in cookies.
• Marketing data — your subscription status, and whether you open or click our emails.

We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us their data, write to us and we will delete it.

3. Why we use it, and on what legal basis

• Taking, producing, shipping and tracking your order; handling returns, refunds and after-sales — performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
• Answering your questions by email or chat — performance of a contract, or our legitimate interest in helping you (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f)).
• Accounting, invoicing and tax records — legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)).
• Fraud prevention, chargeback handling and site security — legitimate interest in protecting the business (Art. 6(1)(f)).
• Newsletters and promotional emails — your consent, withdrawable at any time (Art. 6(1)(a)).
• Advertising and audience measurement cookies — your consent, given through the cookie banner (Art. 6(1)(a)).
• Strictly necessary cookies (cart, session, security) — legitimate interest; the site cannot work without them (Art. 6(1)(f)).
• Establishing, exercising or defending legal claims — legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)).

4. Who we share it with

We never sell your personal data. We share only what is necessary, with the following categories of recipient, each bound to use it solely on our instructions:

• Shopify Inc. — hosting of the store, order management, customer accounts, email notifications and the customer messaging tool. Our store data is hosted in the European Union.
• Stripe — payment processing, fraud detection and chargeback handling.
• DSers and our manufacturing and fulfilment partners — your name, delivery address and telephone number, so that your order can be produced and dispatched. Some of these partners are located outside the European Economic Area.
• Carriers and postal operators — delivery and tracking.
• TikTok and Pinterest — where you have consented to advertising cookies, so that we can measure our campaigns and show relevant advertising.
• Our accountant and any professional adviser bound by professional secrecy.
• Public authorities, where the law requires it.

5. Transfers outside the European Economic Area

Because our company is established in the United Arab Emirates and some of our fulfilment partners operate from outside the EEA, your data may be transferred outside the EEA. When that happens, we rely on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses, together with appropriate technical and organisational safeguards, unless the destination country benefits from an adequacy decision. You can ask us for a copy of the safeguards in place.

6. How long we keep it

• Order and invoicing data — 10 years, to meet accounting and tax obligations.
• Customer account data — for as long as your account is open, then 3 years after your last activity.
• Prospect and newsletter data — 3 years after your last interaction with us, or until you unsubscribe.
• Correspondence — 3 years after the exchange closes.
• Cookie data — 13 months maximum from the moment consent is given.

7. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to: access your data; have it corrected; have it erased; restrict or object to its processing, including profiling for direct marketing; receive it in a portable format; withdraw your consent at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out beforehand; and give instructions on what should happen to your data after your death.

Write to sermentcouture@outlook.com with your request. We may ask you for proof of identity where there is genuine doubt. Exercising these rights is free of charge.

Every marketing email contains an unsubscribe link, which takes effect immediately.

If you believe we have not handled your data properly, you may lodge a complaint with the data protection authority of your country of residence — in France, the CNIL (cnil.fr).

8. Cookies

Cookies are small files placed on your device. We use:

• Strictly necessary cookies — your cart, your session, security and fraud prevention. These cannot be switched off.
• Analytics cookies — to understand which pages are read and where visitors leave.
• Advertising cookies — TikTok and Pinterest, to measure our campaigns and show you relevant advertising.

Analytics and advertising cookies are only placed once you accept them in the banner shown on your first visit. You can change your mind at any time through the Cookie preferences link in the footer, or by clearing the cookies in your browser settings.

9. Security

The site runs entirely over HTTPS. Payments are handled on our provider’s PCI-DSS certified infrastructure and card numbers never reach our servers. Access to customer data is limited to the people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, so please do not send sensitive information such as card numbers to us by email or chat — we will never ask you for them.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes in our practices or in the law. The new version is published on this page with its date of update; where the change is significant, we tell you by email.
