Most wedding websites look alike because they are built from the same checklist. The ones guests remember do one or two things differently. None of these ideas needs a developer; all of them work on a Canva wedding website.

1. Open on a moment, not a menu

Instead of landing guests on a navigation bar, open on something that happens: an envelope with a wax seal that breaks when they tap it, a ribbon that unties, a curtain that lifts. 2. Put your names and the date in the first line

Guests open the link from a message, often weeks after they first saw it. The first line should answer “whose wedding, and when?” without a scroll: Eleanor & James — 14 June 2027 — The Rose Garden Estate.

3. A countdown that does something

A countdown alone is decoration. A countdown with an “add to calendar” button next to it is the single most useful thing on the page: one tap and the date is in the guest’s phone, with the address.

4. The details as a timeline

Rather than paragraphs, lay out the day hour by hour: 15:00 ceremony, 16:30 drinks in the garden, 19:00 dinner, 22:00 dancing. Guests scan a timeline in five seconds; they skip a paragraph.

5. A real map, not an address in italics

Link the venue to a map that opens in the guest’s own app. Add the one sentence locals know and visitors do not: “The car park is behind the chapel, not in front of it.”

6. The story told in three photographs

Three polaroid-style photographs with one line under each tell a story faster than three paragraphs: where you met, the proposal, a recent Sunday. Guests look at photographs; they skim text.

7. A playlist guests add to

8. A dress code in plain words

Name the code, then translate it into clothes and shoes. Here is how to word it, section by section.

9. An RSVP with a kind way to say no

10. A QR code on everything printed

What to avoid

  • More than five pages. Every extra page is a page nobody opens.
  • Autoplaying music. Guests open the link in public.
  • A long engagement story. Two hundred words is plenty.
  • Images uploaded at full camera size, which make the page slow on a phone.
