Start with the fit, not the size

Standard sizes assume that bust, waist and hips grow together. Real bodies rarely do. That is why so many brides end up ordering a size for their hips and altering the bodice, or the reverse. Necklines and sleeves

Fabrics that work

Structured fabrics hold their line: satin, crepe with a good lining, lace over a solid base. Very thin chiffon or stretch jersey can cling. Beading and sequins placed on the bodice draw the eye up; a plain skirt keeps the look light.

Should I order a size up?

With a made-to-measure dress, no: give your real measurements. With a standard size, choose the larger size if you are between two; a dress is easier to take in than to let out.

Yes, if the bodice is well structured and cut to your bust and waist. A bolero or cape can add coverage for the ceremony.
